Chestnut Hill Rotary members Carol Bates, Dietrick Bilger, Maggie Stoeffel and Ellen Williams presented a $1,000 check to Danny's House and took a tour of the facility located in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia. Danny's House helps women reclaim their lives from addiction by providing subsidized and supportive recovery housing for up to 2 years after completion of long-term addiction treatment.
Here I am in Bududa, a remote rural district in eastern Uganda, on the slopes of the largest extinct volcano in East Africa, Mt Elgon. We are in a small district with a large population of mostly subsistence farmers. It is incredibly beautiful here with verdant, lush green hillsides and the mountain and all its rolling hills stretching out around Bududa.
Philadelphia, PA – The Chestnut Hill Rotary Club proudly announces the launch of The Fund for Northwest Philadelphia, a new initiative aimed at providing ongoing, impactful support to the communities of Chestnut Hill, Mt. Airy, and Germantown. Building on over 30 years of dedicated service to the local community, this fund represents a significant expansion of the Club’s ability to create lasting positive change.
Chestnut Hill Rotary provided funding to the Germantown Faith Communities Against Gun Violence last summer for youths to attend the La Salle University’s Summer STEM Enrichment Camp with a strong conflict resolution component led by Reverend Linda, J. Ivey, MSW. The camp consisted of 36 students from diverse backgrounds from Philadelphia Public schools, grades 5 to 8.
On a chilly late fall morning, Henry H. Houston Elementary School Principal Leroy Hall leads a cheerful “ABC Song” with third grade students who were excitingly waving dictionaries in the air.
“A B C D E F G… now I know my…” Accompanying Hall in the school’s library were teachers and a half dozen Chestnut Hill Rotary volunteers.
