Members of the Northwest Philadelphia community gathered on a warm Saturday morning in July to dedicate a new playground designed to meet the needs of women and their children who are clients of Life Turning Point of Philadelphia.
“Our children now have a safe place to play,” said founder and Executive Director of Life Turning Point of Philadelphia. “There were very special people involved with helping to make this happen. I want to especially thank the Rotary Club of Chestnut Hill.”

Chestnut Hill Rotary recently gave a grant for $2,500 to support the construction of an outdoor play area for clients of Life Turning Point of Philadelphia.
“Over the past few years, we had 113 children come here. We really didn’t have a really safe place for children to play outside here,” said Charles Frederick, Board Member, Life Turning Point. The organization is located in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, which is often plagued by gun violence and drug-related activities.

Life Turning Point of Philadelphia provides shelter and support for women and their children who are experiencing homelessness. Their clients receive temporary housing in their "home" for up to 18 months while receiving life-skills training and assistance securing employment and permanent housing. The goal of their programs is to help families become self-sufficient after completion.
"Like all children, the kids who are residing at Life Turning Point of Philadelphia deserve to get outside to play in a fun and safe environment,” said Maggie Stoeffel, Community Service Chair. “When Rita Whitaker asked us to help her with the play space for the kids at Life Turning Point, we were eager to help."
The new outdoor play area provides a safe place for their clients’ children to play which is an important part of their mental and physical development. The Chestnut Hill Rotary grant was made possible through the fundraising efforts of the members and a matching grant from Rotary International.
The dedication event ended with a ribbon cutting ceremony and children eagerly playing in the new outdoor area.
